Retention aid is the key to cost-saving in a paper mill. Retention aids are used at the wet end of the paper machine to improve retention of fine particles, fillers, additives & sizing agents during the formation of paper in addition retention of fines also helps in improving smoothness, porosity & sp. scattering coefficient This improvement is maintained after calendaring operation. In this case, the task of retaining is more challenging & paper machine run ability will be decreased. As a result, the papermaking process becomes less economical. Hence the demand for retention aid is increased to saving cost.
